Program Purpose:
This training is designed for professionals working with clients
who are chemically dependent or pathological gamblers.
Intended Audience:
Certified Addiction Counselors, Mental Health Counselors,
Physicians, Psychologists, Social Workers and Ministers.
Workshop Benefits:
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Satisfy the academic requirements of the American Compulsive
Gambling Counselor Certification Board.
- Understand how to accurately assess/identify problem and
pathological gambling.
- Develop successful treatment plans when working with a gambler
and his/her family.
- Conduct a thorough financial assessment and develop effective
financial treatment plans.
- Conduct successful interventions with pathological gamblers
and their significant others.
Accreditation
Accreditation has been obtained from the following organizations:
- The Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional
Certification Association (IAODAPCA) for 21 hours of Category I/II
credit.
- American Compulsive Gambling Counselor Certification Board.
- National Council on Problem Gambling.
- EACC/EAPA 21 hours of PDH.
- 21 hours Illinois Social Worker CEU sponsor.

The Illinois Institute's compulsive gambling counselor
certification training team includes nationally recognized trainers:
Henry Lesieur, the internationally recognized "dean" of gambling
research; Randee McGraw, manager of the Illinois Institute; Hank
Sahlin, the Addiction Recovery Center's financial counselor; Steve
Ranney, the Illinois Institute's coordinator of research and
training; Angie Moore, Manager of the Addiction Recovery Center's
clinical services; and Rick Zehr, Vice President of Addiction and Behavioral Sciences of addiction and
behavioral services at Proctor Hospital.

In addition, other internationally recognized compulsive gambling
counselor trainers such as Mary Heineman, Joanna Franklin, Debra
Ellison and Valerie Lorenz routinely join the Institute's training
team to provide certification training. The Illinois Institute has
provided varying levels of gambling training to over 1,000
professionals.
