Bob Gilroy

Bob Gilroy is a Certified Addictions Counselor who has worked in the addictions field for 15 years, primarily with adolescents and their families. Bob has been with the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery in Peoria, Illinois for the past three years and finds that working at the IIAR has allowed him to gain experience in identifying, assessing and treating patients with multiple addictions. His present position as a corporate services clinician allows Bob to work in the systems that make up a community, including area schools, which are of particular interest to him. Most recently, he has facilitated one- and two-day training sessions for school systems that are interested in implementing a School Assistance Program.

Bob maintains a busy schedule of presentations at both local and state level. For example, as an advocate for prevention services, Bob has been involved in the Illinois Teen Institute since 1984. Directing this national and state award-winning prevention program is one of his most gratifying experiences. He continues his involvement on the planning committee and serves as a consultant at ITI. Continuing his active interest in that organization, Bob currently serves on the committee that is responsible for bringing the National Association Teen Conference to Illinois in the fall of 2000.

Another of Bob's endeavors is serving on the board of Illinois Drug Education Alliance, which monitors the types of substance-abuse legislation that comes before state legislators. IDEA also serves as a resource to other states that are in the process of developing a similar program.

When at home, Bob enjoys spending time with his wife, Connie, and their grandson, Dylan. Always one to focus on challenges, he also enjoys his newfound hobby, golf.
